The Offer

No direct link, targeted offer sent out via snail mail

  • Open a new business checking (business standard, premium or elite) and receive a bonus of $1,500 when you complete the following requirements:
    • Add $2,000 or more in funds within 10 calendar days of account opening
    • Maintain a $2,000 balance for 60 days

The Fine Print

  • Offer not available to existing Fifth Third business checking or to those with an account that has been closed within the last 12 months.
  • All bank account bonuses are treated as income/interest and as such you have to pay taxes on them

Avoiding Fees

Monthly Fees

The easiest way to keep the account fee free is to open a Fifth Third Business Standard Checking Account, this account has a monthly fee of $11 that is waived if you have a balance of $5,000 or more (and this required for the bonus anyway).

Early Account Termination Fee

As far as we know there is no longer any early account termination fee either, but regardless of when you do close your account you’re required to pay a $50 fee.

Our Verdict

This deal is basically just a free $1,500. Incredible offer, shame it’s targeted. If you get targeted then I think doing this is an incredibly easy decision, even if you pay some monthly fees you’re still going to end up so far ahead it’s not even funny.

Big thanks to reader, Steve who let us know. Learn how to find bonuses and contribute to the site here.

Yeah, several numbers in this post are wrong… also “a balance of $5,000 or more (and this required for the bonus anyway)” when the photo says only $2k is required for this bonus. $1500 bonus on $2000 balance is fantastic! Great opportunity for those eligible.

I was lucky enough to get this last year at my office address. At the time, I got one for $1,000 bonus and one for $2,000. They paid it very quickly, and easy to keep the account fee free. Only downside is a $50 fee to close the account.

Any ideas on ways to get targeted? I have a tax I’d number. Where could they get their Names and addresses from? the phone book? Business credit reporting agencies?

I had 2 last years. Deposited 2K and get $1500 after 60 days. Easy $$$

Certainly this is a mistake, right? Whoever transcribed the meeting where this bonus was discussed must have added an extra 0 at some point. This is way too good to be true.

I’ll definitely be looking for one too since I most likely won’t get a mailer

These are being sent directly to businesses, not individuals, the business name must match to get the bonus.

Ah thank you

It definitely does not have to match. Just opened one yesterday that was not sent to me.

Just applied for this (sole prop) and was approved. Barely needed any info. Did it over the phone. Will follow up when I get the bonus!

Might want to edit: it’s $3500 to keep the account fee free, $2000 for 60 days to get the bonus. DO NOT LET IT GO BELOW $2000. It’s not average balance, it’s a minimum daily balance.

Lucky!!

JM, I plan on calling in on Friday to open mine over the phone as well. So how did you actually fund the account? Is that possible over the phone, or do they give you the account number and you deposit via cash or check in the branch? The $2,000 balance needs to reached within 10 calendar days, so that is not a whole lot of time.

Also, did you go with the Business Standard Checking I’m assuming?

When I did the last round, you could either wait for your account details by mail (slow and risky) or go in branch with your ID and get your account/routing number. I elected to also deposit a check while getting my account number.

Oh! Does Sole prop mean you used your ssn instead of tax ID to open business checking account?

Yes.

Did you receive a targeted offer and then used that to open over the phone?

Has your bonus hit yet?

Got a 500 offer, terms require a 1000 balance for 60 days. No mention in the offer about closure terms or fees after the 60 days

Man, I have a Sole Proprietorship and share a personal 5/3 account with my wife. Sure would be nice to get this!

All Fifth Third business accounts require minimum deposits to avoid monthly services fees, all accounts have a $50 closing fee. Its in the terms they give you at the time of account opening. These terms are different than the bonus terms. The bonus terms are the rules to earn the bonus however you need to make sure you follow the rules to keep the accounts fee free. I believe the minimum tier is $2,500 or $3,500 minimum balance

YMMV, but when I closed my biz checking account ($750 promo) in June, closing fee was only $25 despite their online documentation.
