Our Verdict
Normally this bonus can’t be opened online, but looks like this one can. Most readers won’t be approved due to how ChexSystems sensitive they are unfortunately. Worth doing if you only have a few recent accounts opened, otherwise you’ll almost certainly be denied. I’ll add this to the list of the best checking bonuses.

Do you guys know if the direct deposit needs to be on-going? I have a real DD going to the account for the last 3 months and wanted to get feedback if it needed to be on-going? I would like to change it out and put my DD to work else where lol.
Did anyone got bonuses from November offer?
I would like to know as well
198 days from opening and 174 days from direct deposit, my bonus finally posted
I opened my account right up at the November 15, 2019 deadline and received my $300 bonus today.
First DD was on January 31, 2020 so I received my bonus about 6.5 months after account opening and 4 months after first DD.
I called the Homestreet customer service number just now and requested to convert my Premium Select Checking account ($2,500 minimum balance requirement to avoid monthly service charge) to a Select Checking account (no minimum balance requirement) now that I received my bonus. The lady I spoke with will mail some paperwork to me so I should receive it in a week or so.
Bonuses finally posted.
Warning to folks here: be cautious when dealing with this bank. They charged me monthly service fee despite the fact that I have $2500 balance. Currently still going back and forth with them on messages trying to get the fee refunded. Also the direct deposit requirement has been met for more than 40 days. The bonus hasn’t be posted for me.
I’m located in SF bay area in CA.
this is a little weird. from previous experiences bonus post within one month of DD.
Offer extended until March 31, 2020. https://www.homestreet.com/bonus Trying to determine if it is worth trying, as the comments here are not encouraging.
Do we have any recent DP that push from Discover, Charles Schwab would qualify the DD requirement?
Can confirm this is a shitty bank. Had to fight tooth and nail to get my bonus after they decided that, since I didn’t “keep up my direct deposit”, they were going to deny my bonus. After some tense phone time and references to bait-and-switch/CFPB, they paid out, but it was very unpleasant.
Wife currently doing this bonus, but she’s finding out her salary that’s been DD’d is basically locked for 60 days…no CC payments allowed, no ACH access, etc. Also, they just charged wife a $10 service fee, despite having over $8k in the account and active DD’s.
Some banks just aren’t worth the hassle (looking at you BMO), and this one is one of them
Luckily they gave me my $300 bonus this time but circa 2016-2018 I opened a checking account with Homestreet under a $200 bonus promotion and they did not give it to me. Homestreet claimed that I opened the account after the promotional period when I did in fact open it prior to the promotional expiration date. I had to fight tooth and nail with them as well and it was unpleasant just as you stated. I figured I’d give it another shot, take the $300 from them, and then close the account as soon as I can to avoid further business with them.
Denied due to chex. My advice is that don’t bother to try unless this is your first account in 2019.
How many Chex inquiries do you have. How do I find out how many inqs. I got. I’m new at this but I’m gonna be a BadAss in 2020….lol. Currently I got 4 applications in Process.
I am filling out the online application now. The only method that they offer to fund the new account (to open the account) is mail a personal check. They don’t allow an online ACH transfer from my external bank account? I don’t want to have to mail a personal check to them, which will take several days to reach them via snail mail and I have to pay for postage.
“How do you want to fund your new account?”
“Mail a personal check.” (This is the only option that I see offered on the application screen).
I spoke with a customer service representative over the phone regarding this matter. She instructed me to select the “Mail a personal check.” option but I can actually visit a branch to make the initial/opening deposit instead of sending the personal check via snail mail. I don’t have to visit the branch today; I mentioned if I can come next Monday and she said yes. I don’t know when is the last day that I can visit the branch to make the opening deposit.
Last I heard $3o0 is more than 50 cents…..mail the check.
Did not get approved….. I opened around 7 checking and savings accounts in the past 12 months
