How To Force Getting Targeted For American Express / Chase / Citi / Discover / Wells Fargo Amazon Promotions

Update 7/6/19: This has been confirmed to be working by a lot of readers, if you haven’t tried it then I would recommend giving it a try ahead of Prime day.

At the moment there are a number of different promotions that credit card issuers are running for Amazon:

All of these promotions are targeted or YMMV. The below steps won’t always work, but they can help you get targeted for the above promotions (inspired by FM).

  1. Delete your saved cards on Amazon (you’ll want to delete the cards you want to get the targeted offers on. So if you’re trying to do a Membership Rewards earning promotion then delete all of the American Express cards)
  2. Add the card(s) back to your account
  3. Re-enroll in shop with points (or the other relevant program). Remember to make sure you don’t set pay with points as the default to avoid wasting points in the future
  4. Check to see if you’re targeted for the promotion (it might take a few days to show up. My recommendation would be to check every day for a week and then you can check less frequently after that)

Again this won’t always work, but it has worked in the past. In addition after completing a promotion I’d always remove the card again so you have a better chance of being targeted immediately when a new promotion is released. Might also be wise to save these promotions for Prime day if there is something you know you’ll want to buy and it’s likely it will be on sale.

Should I remove the card and leave it out when I am waiting for the new promotions, or should I still opt in for the pay with points?

Stacking Points

Deleting MR card and re-adding it and re-enrolling in Pay With Points worked for me the other day to get targeted on one of my Amazon accounts.

I clicked the registration link and was told I wasnt targeted (MR promotion). Later in the day, I added something to my cart and and on the product page and in the cart I was offered the promotion. Might be a simpler way or I might have just gotten targeted in the few hours in between…

IIRC It only works on amazon purchases and not third party resellers. The new items might have been amazon sold products where as the stuff in your cart from before might have been someone else selling it

Hey. Great post! I’ve always thought of why I’m not targeted to some of these offers and if there’s anything I can do, I appreciate your post very much. I do have one question tho: you recommend deleting the card, then adding it back etc… : Will that be better than not having the card on my Amazon account at all and only add it after I’m reading here about these promos? So, my point is: Should I usually keep my cards on the amazon account and then delete/re-add them if I wasn’t targeted OR should I keep my cards out of the amazon account and add them afresh when I’m learning of a targeting campaign, then if got targeted use it and take the card out again until next cycle? Thanks much!

The post suggests removing the card again as soon as you complete the offer.

You don’t delete the cards. Just unenroll from pay with points. I think?

Can you use more than one type of points currency (i.e. UR and MR) during checkout to stack the promos/discounts?

I’ve been using this trick since last year. For the current offers, it works for the 20% of when using MR but doesn’t work for the $30 off $60. You might have to wait 2-4 days after linking your rewards points to be targeted.

Thanks. So what you’re saying is that upon hearing there’s another campaign where you weren’t targeted, you would un-enroll your amazon from using the points, then wait 2-4 days, re-enroll and hope to get a targeted email?

Not an email. Doc has links to the posts on MR and UR. You click the button on the amazon page to see if you’re targeted.

Same here. This trick works for 20% but not 60-30 for me…

WOW. Thanks. This totally worked. I removed all my cards 2 days ago and did nothing else. I went online today to make a purchase and I see the amex 20% offer using points on my checkout screen. An amazing savings. Thank you doc. I quickly removed it again, jopefully I keep seeing offers. just to note – I saw the offer prior to adding back the card. I currently have no cards on my account. Not sure if that matters.

I got 20% off today.
I tried this link and use different methods few times this week but didnt work. However, the promotion showed up after I claimed my 10% moving coupon.
I just tested I can apply 20%, 10% moving and $5 gc promo for one order, will wait till 7/8 to see if i can apply another 20% for one order.

I got this to work on the Amex offer. Hopefully I can use this on Prime Day.

Worked for my Amex offer. Got 20% of $250 (for the third time in 2 year period ,I think).
I had to check 3 times before being able to see the 20% off by using 1 MR point.
PS. I followed exactly what was suggested above.

On the Amazon app I got the offer for a $10 credit for changing my 1-Click payment method to the Discover credit card I have on my account.

I’ve tried this strategy before and sometimes it takes a few weeks to work, but usually it’s successful.

I was able to get a promotion after a week of doing what suggested here of deleted all cards and re-enrolled the Pay with Points after initially not targeted…
