Our Verdict

This has been 50,000 points for some time, now we are seeing an increased offer of 75,000 points. It is possible to get 100,000 points without upgrading but the advantage to an upgrade offer is the ability to get the bonus even if you’ve had the card before. Not hugely surprising to see this increased offer given the 125,000 points on the personal Platinum that some are seeing (regular offer, not upgrade).

I received this offer. Since last week, the offer has become 85k points with $10k spending. The offer has no lifetime language and shows an expiration date of 6/30/2021.

For once, I received a pop-up screen for upgrading to business platinum and receiving 100k points after $15k spending. It never came back though.

Saw this upgrade offer from Biz Gold to Biz Platinum. But I never had Biz Platinum before and thus did not have the signup bonus. If I apply for the Biz Platnum first, and then upgrade Biz Gold, is it possible to get both bonus, or just one of them?

Thanks.

Jeez, Amex really wants me to upgrade. Today the offer has changed to 100k points for $15k spend in 3 months. Actually that popped up when I logged in, but if I dismiss it and go down to Amex Offers, I still get the 75k/$10k offer. I’m waiting til my statement closes this week so hopefully one or the other is still available then.

No go for me, clicked on the link, logged in, and then it says offer not available.

There’s also an upgrade offer for personal platinum. Upgrade and spend $5000 and get 60000 points. Upgrade by 12/17/20. Got it by email.

The terms says for first time upgrades only. So if you’ve upgraded to this card before you’re not eligible for the bonus. You also can’t do multiple upgrades.

“ Offer is available for first-time upgrades to the new Business Platinum Card only and for one Card account only. Additional Card Members are not eligible.”

This is just weird. WTF, Amex ? Fix your system so you would not be offering the targeted upgrade bonus to 2nd time upgraders.

My personal green card also has upgrade offers to both the Gold and the vanilla Platinum and those offers have the life time language – not available to applicants who have or have had those products. So, they are definitely getting very strict.

Yep, they are getting weird. I think until just a few months ago the upgrade offers had no lifetime language and they were assumed to be safe from rats. Ugh.
