Deal has expired and is no longer being offered. Click here for current AmEx offers.

The Offer

No direct link, targeted offer

Amex released another one of their twice-annual Best Buy offers. Here are the two versions of the offer:

  • Spend $300 at Best Buy or bestbuy.com and get $30 back as a statement credit
  • Spend $300 at Best Buy or bestbuy.com and get 3,000 Membership Rewards points

The Fine Print

  • Expires September 17, 2018
  • Valid at any participating location in the US and US Territories
  • Not valid for e-gift card purchases. Excludes corporate gift card purchases.
  • Excludes Best Buy Express, Geek Squad services made outside of Best Buy, Best Buy Parts Store, Best Buy Private Store & Auction or at standalone Pacific Sales stores

Our Verdict

Keep in mind issues with AmEx offers regarding same names. This deal is great as Best Buy sell numerous gift cards making it easier to maximize the offer. Check out this comprehensive post Everything you ever wanted to know about Buying Gift Cards at Best Buy to learn more about which gift cards to buy at Best Buy in-store or online. Options include $200 Visa gift cards for $205.95, eBay gift cards, gas gift cards, restaurant gift cards, and more. The options are slimmer online, but they do now have eBay and dining gift cards (Starbucks, etc.) online. You can also buy Best Buy physical gift cards to trigger the offer.

You can split up a charge with up to 10 different credit cards in Best Buy stores. Online you’re limited to using one card per order. Other ways to stack:

For those that do not have the offer and see 100 offers on your AMEX, add some offers and new offers will appear. I had to do this to pull the Best Buy offer.

You can use old Amex login

Good to know

Targeted on 7/7 personal cards.
Did I read somewhere that there was a way to get offers on the amex cards not available in login (e.g. wells fargo, flexperks, etc.) or did I imagine that?

my platinum card received cashback instead of MR points, annoying because I get 1.25x with Schwab cashout on MR but I can’t find the original language on my offer to check.

7/7 for this offer.

But could you add it to more than one card? If I add any offer to any card, it disappears from all my others, even across different products.

Does Best Buy Mobile store trigger this offer?

Damn. I wonder if the Meta VGCs went down with the ship.

I bought tons of vgc’s during last years offers. Haven’t seen any in my local stores since Jan 🙁

Chuck

Yeah, worked for me in the past.

Anyone else having trouble finding VGCs lately at their Best Buy? I haven’t seem them stocked at any of the 4 in my area in almost a year.

MoreSun
MoreSun

Mine doesn’t stock them either.

Brad C
Brad C

I believe now they are only stocked over the holidays, if ever again.

Weird. I have always gotten this offer on all my cards. Just got it on one (Amex Everyday which is a newer card) even though I don’t even have 100 offers on the others. Damn, my Best Buy still sells VGC’s too!

Eric
Eric

Was the Everyday the first card that you tried? I only ask because it was on the first card (BCE) that I tried. I added it and then checked my other cards and it wasn’t on any of them.

I’m wondering if activating it on 1 card removes it from the rest.

Are the other cards on the same login? If you add it and then log back in and select a different card it won’t show again. I used the multiple tab trick this morning to pull all my accounts up and duplicated offers fine.

Eric
Eric

No, each of my cards have their own login.

If I knew this could happen I would have logged into each using different browsers and added them all at once.

I’m not 100% sure that the offer was on any of the other cards but the odds of it being on the first I looked at and none of the rest is pretty small.

Mike
Mike

Yes same here. Have 6 different logins and since it was never an issue in the past I didn’t even think about it. I was able to get multiple home fresh a few weeks ago though so this might not be what is happening.

I flew threw our accounts so fast this morning I didn’t even notice the pattern- same thing! I added the offers to my biz card and then logged into my personal and none were available. I have multiple accounts I manage for multiple people with different logins and each person got each offer 1 time only. Like you I am convinced if I had opened all logins in their own tabs prior to adding the offers I would have been able to add them to all the cards.

So, the name crackdown has expanded (or finally been noticeable to me). Each of the names I manage got these offers once despite having various Amex cards and logins, business or personal it didn’t matter.

Alex
Alex

Yes, amex is cracking down. All my accounts that were under my name had the offer removed after I added it to two accounts using the multiple tab trick. My authorized user accounts that are under other people’s name had the offer though (except for one of them).

This is across different logins and different cards (e.g. added offer to bce, lost it on plat, prg, spg, etc all on different logins).

Eric
Eric

Are you saying that you had all of the browsers open showing the offer and some actually disappeared before you could add it after the first 2?

Alex
Alex

No, I’m saying if you want to add all the offers I would open all the browsers before adding any, regardless if they’re different logins, or from different cards.

Eric
Eric

Yes, that’s exactly what I wrote in the comment before I replied to you.

In the warning post that Will linked to in this post he only mentioned AU cards having this problem. This had nothing to do with AU so it must be a new development.

Arty
Arty

Can confirm here. I have biz and personal log in. Checked both and both have this offer before adding anything. Added onto personal cards using multiple tabs. Log back into biz, all gone. Same for best buy, bed bath and beyond, and multiple other amex offers

AnameOfaguy
AnameOfaguy

It’s been that way since the start of this new development, unfortunately. https://www.doctorofcredit.com/issues-with-american-express-offers-developing/#comment-615535

Eric
Eric

You’re right. Unfortunately I am way behind on reading the comments from my email so I didn’t see it.

Will must have missed that comment also as he never updated the post to make it clear that more than AU cards were affected.

AnameOfaguy

Just trying to spread the word so people are careful 🙂 Nothing worse than adding a good offer to the wrong card! Except maybe freezing on last night’s Target deal.

In which city/zipcode are you still finding vgc’s?

Damn wish i read here before adding. Missed out on 5 accounts

I can confirm the below discussion not just today but for the past 2-3 week: Offers added by one person weather AU or main account only appears once per person ( I think they limit by once per SSN) now. Even if this person is AU on a totally different Amex account all with different logins, then it will not show up since it was added by that person already elsewhere.
Now to hunt for VGC or combine ebay+Shell+restaurant GC card purchases if/when they have Shell GC deals at BB.

Eric
Eric

How often do they have Shell gc deals? Is in this in-store or online?

The good part about this promo is that it works on multiple purchases so I can buy a smaller denomination of Shell now with no discount and wait for a promo that you mentioned to buy more.

HarryTheFirstHarry
HarryTheFirstHarry

I joined the party only last year when they offered Shell GC BOGO 50% off one time maybe in October or November….it was here on DOC and that is how I found it. Its not so easy to find out since it does not appear to be well advertised and also deal sites don’t post it as prominently as other deals.

Eric
Eric

While that would be a good deal I doubt they would offer that when an Amex Offer is going on. What do you think?

I do vaguely remember that deal being posted on DoC. Wasn’t it for a few different brands including Shell?

I didn’t pay much attention as I didn’t participate in it.

Steven

I saw this offer on my Business Platinum this morning but did not add it. Went back to add it just now and it’s gone. I’m wondering if they already reached the max number of people.

Yup, same here. We were too slow.

Went to Best Buy today to buy $50 Shell cards and they had a limit of two gift cards per purchase. Last time I went the limit was $200, and not long ago there was no limit. But online I can buy three at a time.

Jon

Never targeted for these. I even added all the offers and used old interface. i think it’s bc one of my other cards has a earn 1 extra point at best buy still sitting out there, but who actually know

Ken

Me too. 0/11 but have the 2x offer on almost all cards.

FWIW, Amazon GC’s are back in Bestbuy. Max is $200 denomination. Good way to get 10% if u have the offer across multiple cards.

Just realized this expires in a week. Have the offer on 4 cards. Any chance of Amex clawing back like they did with Staples?
