[Expired] [Targeted] Amex Offers: 10% Back on any Insurance Bill, Max $20

Deal has expired, view more Insurance deals by clicking here.

The Offer

Check your Amex login for the following offer:

  • Get 10% back on any insurance payment
  • Max $20 in statement credits

The Fine Print

  • Expires 7/15/2019
  • Government-backed insurance policies may be excluded.

Our Verdict

Looks to be highly targeted (at least I wasn’t targeted), feel free to share the end date and the other terms in the comments below. Most people should be able to max this out easily by paying health, auto or home insurance. Keep in mind it’s usually not an issue paying well in advance.

Does anybody really prepay their auto or home insurance? The bill is not ready and you may change your insurance when it’s out.

If you change they refund your money.

Steve

It can also just be paying for future months of your current policy, if the insurer bills you monthly.

I used to exclusively “prepay” back when insurance companies offered me a discount for paying in full. I don’t see a “paid in full” discount much anymore, only autopay discounts. But it’s not actually prepaying so much as paying the policy in full. You can’t “prepay” unless your renewal policy is already underwritten, and that doesn’t happen until shortly before the renewal policy takes effect.

I also paid in full when I had the (now defunct) NBA 5% card.

Also, it’s been my experience with homeowners insurance that most companies underwrite new policies to be due in full whereas renewal policies get the monthly payment plan. I’ve never had an insurance escrow on my mortgage, so I don’t know the policies for escrowed policies.

Changing/cancelling insurance is never an issue, you get a prorated refund when you cancel or change your policy.

Many forms of auto insurance I’ve come across offer a ~20% discount for paying in full, which is obviously worth it.

I always prepay my auto insurance. It’s a great way to meet the minimum spend on credit cards. Plus there’s a discount for prepaying.

You should be looking into reducing that policy premium instead earning cashback.

Insuring a Mercedes is going to be expensive no matter what.

Progressive doesnt accept Amex as a form of CC payment. They accept Paypal. Does anyone know if I can pay with my targeted Amex card via Paypal to trigger the offer?

Chuck

Not usually, usually third party payment processors are excluded.

Yes, I made a $200 payment to Progressive w/ Amex via PayPal and can confirm that it triggered a statement credit of $19.50 back. It appears that signing up for a PayPal account may have taken $5 off my bill too.
