Best Posts Last Week: Barclaycard American Airline Credit Cards, Cobranded Cards & 5% Cash Back Cards

Yes yes, I know I usually post the round up on a Sunday but I was feeling lazy (and maybe had a few too many drinks on the weekend) so didn’t get around to it until now. Let’s get stuck into what was interesting last week.

The biggest news was probably the fact that Barclaycard will be offering four different American Airline Aviator credit cards. We were originally lead to believe that there would only be two. To make it easier to compare these cards to the Citi cards, we built a table that makes it easy to view all of the American Airline credit cards at a glance, it also compares the individual cards on a one to one basis based on the annual fee. Barclaycard also answered all of the questions we had about these new cards. I’ve also heard a few rumors  that these new cards will be available for new sign ups after the merger, if this is the case I’ll be very interested to see what the sign up bonuses are on each of those cards.

There was also plenty of news in the cobranded credit card space, Costco announced that they would be partnering with Citi & Visa for the new Costco cobranded credit card. American Express’ & jetBlue’s contract will officially end on the 31st of December. We also gave you a lot more information on what cobranded credit cards are and how these partnerships work and how much each party gets paid.

Credit card issuers will usually refund your annual fee if you cancel within a certain amount of time. This post lets you know what the time period is for each of the card issuers.

If you’re interested in manufactured spending, you might want to consider the TD credit card that is currently offering a $200 sign up bonus, it also offers 5% cash back on all supermarkets, gas stations, dining, cable, phone and utility bills for the first six months. You might want to consider getting this card soon, as the noose is tightening on 5% cash back cards. For example it looks like it’s no longer possible to get the Charter One/Citizen’s Bank 5% cash back cards (although it might still be possible, read this post for more information). The new replacement cards they are offering aren’t of any use either.

In our last piece of news, Softcard will shut it’s doors at the end of this month. American Express sent an e-mail out saying that nothing will change for Serve Softcard users, which presumably means they will have the same increased funding limits.
