Avoiding Fees

Monthly Fees

This account has no monthly fees to worry about.

Early Account Termination Fee

According to this comment there is an early account termination fee of $15 if closed within 6 months.

Our Verdict

Biggest bonus we’ve seen previously was $200 and that was targeted. This is an extra $50 and publicly accessible. It’s a nice offer as well as you don’t need a direct deposit, an automated debit will work as well as per the terms. I’ll repost this offer and add it to the best checking promotions page once the offer goes live on October 7th.

Hmm, I got 200 from these guys last year, wonder if I’m eligible again, I don’t see any verbiage regarding previous customers.

Did they only have the promo for 7 days only last year? Missed to avail of this offer in this short time window wondering when another opportunity will come

The deck of cards is novel.

Anybody get this from out of state or know of restrictions? I am in NY about 40 minute drive away?

Will keep you posted I’m in the same situation im going in branch to open today

Why? The promotion doesn’t start until next week.

I’m interested to know as well! There are branches in Jersey City and Hoboken, to which I could get rather quickly.

Just called. They only accept NJ and PA residents. Working in NJ but living in NY won’t qualify either. Sucks

James
James

Incorrect sir. Just applied in branch as NY resident without any issues

That’s good news! Which branch did you go to?

Thanks for this DP Firefly!

The terms “automatic debit” doesn’t make sense as that is a withdrawal. I’m guessing they meant to write “automatic credit”, as that would be similar to a direct deposit.

I will ask them if I am able to make it in-branch. I don’t want to miss this offer like I did the Incredible offer.

From thebalance.com:

Automatic payments: If you choose automatic recurring payments, your biller will pull funds from your account every time your bill is due, such as monthly, in many cases. The biller initiates the transaction, and you do not have to take any action, which helps if you tend to get busy and forget to pay bills on time.

Elan had a promotion for automatic payments a while ago. I tried several vendors and it was hit-or-miss whether they were coded as automatic payments and qualified for the promotion. Netflix was one that worked.

Above makes no sense to me: “Credit card funding: Up to $2,500. Visa or Mastercard only. Likely cash advance in branch/not possible to fund with a credit card”. Why not strike out all the old info? I could’ve sworn there was a comment in the last 12 months about Provident Bank NJ no longer allows new-account online credit card funding. –edit: this offer requires branch visit.

Thanks for posting. I know all the information is in the title, but to reiterate: STARTS NEXT MONDAY. NOT LIVE YET. I don’t want anyone to make a wasted trip.

Was able to open in branch and I’m probably at 10 inquiries this year.

Learned from last post that fund with Citi Double Cash should not count as CA. But this post states “Likely cash advance in branch”. Anyone can tell if fund in branch with DC still not count as CA?

Deck of cards? I’m in!

Provident is actually a decent bank if you go in branch but absolutely horrendous over the phone

Ditto. Sweetest ladies in branch last year. I just called to see if I could close over the phone (had sent in a letter couple months back), they said that they never got it, and I had to send a notarized letter now. Or go in person, despite that the closest branch is 1.5 hrs away. Ok, I know you don’t set the rules, just her manner was very rude. Still might rent a car for the day and close…and open? bc I could also do ocean first.

I like the peanut butter variety.

6/12 and 8/12 for me and p2. Also automatic ach debit/credit has to be per statement period and not once.

For the bonus, only a single one-time ACH is necessary.

Recurring ACH is for the bonus APY and ATM refunds.

Is there a minimum amount of ACH/DD needed to trigger the bonus?

I’m 20+/12 and had no issue opening today

Just finished opening my $mart checking account in person. Only funding options were cash or check. The MC debit card that comes with the account is instant-issue. Banker even threw in an RFID-blocking sleeve.

For Customer Service Week freebies, I got a microfiber cloth, a magnetic refrigerator clip, and a pack of waterproof playing cards.

“Refreshments” were bottled water and cheese puffs at my branch…so don’t come to a branch on an empty stomach.

may I ask which branch you visited?

May I ask which branches are closest to you?

Is the “ACH automatic debit” must be an automatic payment? Can I manually make the ACH payment from the utility site instead of the automatic payment?
