[Expired] [Targeted] AmEx Offer: AmExTravel.com, Spend $600+ On Hotels & Receive $100 Statement Credit/10,000 Membership Rewards

Offer has expired, view more AmEx offers here.

The Offer

No direct link, targeted offer

  • Get 10,000 additional Membership Rewards points one-time by using your enrolled card to make a single purchase of $600+ for a prepaid hotel booking online at amextravel.com by 07/15/2018
  • Some people have the same offered but for $100 instead of 10,000 Membership Rewards points. The version you receive usually depends on the card you hold (e.g MR earning cards get MR offer and cash back cards get the cash offer).

The Fine Print

  • Excludes Fine Hotels & Resorts
  • Targeted offer, must use an enrolled card

Our Verdict

Important to keep in mind this only works for prepaid hotel bookings and not flights and you also need to spend $600 in a single purchase. Would be so much more useful if it included flights as it’s much easier to get discounts on hotels and if you’re booking at the larger chain hotels then you need to book directly to get elite night credits, have your status recognized and earn points. I personally book my hotels normally through Hotels.com and I’m able to get 20%+ off without any issue and up to ~35% with discounted gift cards. This American Express discount is only slightly over 16.5% (more depending on how much you value MR points). Offer is slightly better on Platinum cards as they also earn 5x on amextravel.com purchases. Last time they offered this deal it was spend $500 and get $100 back, so this time around it’s not as good.

Sneaky Amex: I have this offer on most of my cards but not on the two Amex Platinums.

I have this on all 4 MR earning cards – 10k points. However, I have no plans on paying for a hotel with $ the rest of the year as I’ll be using points and free night certificates instead.

I was targeted with 10,000 pts on my Everyday card. My SPG and Biz Platinum (supp) did not have either version.

The days of 33% off on Hotels.com are long over. The best discount on the gift cards for some time has been 15% and the cash back rates have gone down, too. TCB only offering 3% if you earn rewards. This could be a good deal for some.

But if you include the free night, its 15% + 3% + 9% (free night) + credit card points for GC purchase. So still easily 25-30 percent. Hard to justify using this offer on AmexTravel.

Can this offer be stacked on top of the Hilton Amex offer of spending $300 to get 3500 MR points?

As long as they both meet the same conditions and you have both offers, there is nothing in the Amex system that only allows a transaction to count for one offer.

Was re reading this and come to think of it I think amex travel charges as amex travel and both the Hilton and marriot offers say has to be made directly by them. Else you can search and see if someone has triggered something like this before.

Using Amex FHR earlier this year worked on triggering the “Earn 7,500 Membership Reward Points with $500+ At MGM Resorts” when it says only booking through mlife.com

Not sure if that was specific to using FHR and how amex travel agents handle the backend booking though. Double dipped FHR benefits + amex offer.
