The Fine Print

  • Enrollment limited.
  • Valid online only at buyhiltongiftcards.com.
  • Not valid for in-store purchases. Excludes purchases made at third party websites.
  • Offer not valid for any purchases made by using American Express Membership Rewards® points.
  • The Hilton Gift Card may be used only at Hilton Hotels and properties worldwide that accept American Express® Cards.
  • Funds do not expire.
  • The Card cannot be used at ATMs.

Our Verdict

You can get another 2x Hilton points by going through their portal, this has been confirmed as working before. You also do need to pay a shipping fee of $1.95, this is often waived with a special promo code (share if you have a working one) You can also get a free three month trial of the free shipping plan if you’ve never used it before as well. A discount of  20% is pretty good on Hilton gift cards.

“We apologize but the selected online shop is not available in our offering.” when trying to go through the Hilton shopping portal on 8/21.

I am unable to check out and receive generic error. Are you able to check-out? Have been facing this issue for almost a week now.

Ordered some cards. All came inactive (no money loaded). Called them and they activated right away.

Check your cards.

Very interesting post about this on SD: “I did this at Xmas with a free ship code. A Double Tree refused them. A Hilton resort said it was an AMEX gift card that could be used as any other AMEX gift card, not just at Hilton properties. It looked like a Hilton-branded AMEX gift card.”

Does anyone have experience with this? Seems like a great deal if it is just a regular Amex card…

One SD member could not pay Hilton hotel valet parking charges at waikiki using Hilton AmEx GC. So it sound like some properties have different rules.

Right but if this is a regular Amex card (only Hilton branded) what would stop us from using it on Amazon for example?

Can you actually use these cards to book a room? All of the marketing indicates these can only be used to pay for incidentals.

can pay the room

I just came back from a Hilton stay (Homewood Suites) and used some Hilton Gift Cards to pay for a portion of the stay. It’s a bit of a pain because they want to charge the stay to your card on file, so you have to stop at the desk while checking out and give them the card/s and they just scan each one – not unlike using a gift card at a store. But it’s not difficult, just an extra step. Then pay any balance via whatever method you like. I used it to pay for the room, had no incidental charges at all.

You can also do that when you check in.

Are these valid across the whole Hilton portfolio of properties?

Will these show up at sold by Hilton or RPG card sales on the statement? Just wondering if the Hilton Amex cards get their Hilton bonus. I’m 8/8 on Amex cards. Trying to decide how many I want to buy for my upcoming Hilton stays.

Even if you have the Aspire, you’re only getting 14x Hilton points from card spend (~7% in value at 0.5 cpp), but this offer is for 20% off. If I were going to spend $800 at Hilton anyway, I’d much rather get $160 back than 11,200 HH points.

Yeah I get that. I’m not going to buy on all 8 of my cards. If I get the Hilton bonus I would buy with my Aspire, vanilla Hilton and BBP. If I don’t get Hilton bonus then it is better to just buy with a few MR earning cards and BBP. So I’m more interested in knowing if these gcs will code as 3x or 14x on my aspire.

I tested this out with my no AF Hilton and Aspire cards. While the transactions do post as RGB card sales, they did in fact code has Hilton purchases for the 7x and 14x points on each card.

funny I too got this on my SPG biz card this a.m. — and via a legacy Delta card.

But…. what does one do with a Hilton gift card? (other than pay for hilton hotels) Recall we had a similar promo for Hilton cards earlier this year, but passed as there’s no apparent re-sale market — anywhere? Any insights out there?

Here what It says on the gift card buy web:
You can redeem a Hilton Gift Card when dining at one of our on-property restaurants, exploring our retail shops, playing at one of our golf courses, relaxing at our spas, or for any charge to your room portfolio.
