Many card benefits and limits have now renewed since the new year began. Here’s a brief list, pulled, mostly, from our post at the end of last year.
- Some American Express cards have a bonus category with annual limits:
- Blue Business Plus $50,000 for 2x everywhere.
- Blue Cash and Everyday cards have a $6,000 limit on the bonus-earn at grocery stores.
- Gold card $25,000 for 4x at grocery stores.
- SimplyCash $50,000 for 5x office/wireless and 3% on chosen category.
- Many credit cards offer annual travel credits. These credits are often triggered when buying gift cards too. Things can always change so worth doing sooner rather than later.
- Grandfathered Chase Sapphire Reserve cardmembers get their $300 travel credit based on the calendar year (see what counts here). More recent cardmembers, since May 2017, get it based on their cardmember year. Check your online Chase login to see if you are eligible.
- Amex Platinum personal, Platinum business, Hilton Aspire, and the Gold card (formerly Premier Rewards Gold) have an airline incidental credit each year: $250 for the Hilton Aspire, $200 for the Platinum cards, and $100 for the Gold (see what counts here).
- The Chase Ritz-Carlton card offers up to $300 reimbursements for airline incidental charges (see what counts here).
- The Citi Prestige card comes with a $250 airline credit (see what counts here).
- The Bank of America Premium Rewards card comes with $100 airline incidental credit (see what counts here).
- The CNB Crystal card offers a $250 annual incidental charges (see what counts here).
- The FBNO Travelite card comes with a $100 airline incidentals credit (see what counts here).
- The PenFed Pathfinder comes with $100 annual airline credit (see what counts here).
- The personal American Express Platinum card offers a twice-per-year $50 Saks credit which renews now. Ideas on what to buy can be found here.
- Chase, Amex, and Discover offer a bonus when you refer friends to their credit card, with an annual limit on the number of referrals you can do each year. That has now reset.
- There are many loyalty perks which require credit card spend. See a full list here. Notably, the Southwest Companion Pass year has renewed. More details on how to get that here.
Other things which just reset:
- $15 monthly Uber credit from the personal Amex Platinum card
- $10 monthly dining credit on the Amex gold card
- Quarterly categories on the Chase Freedom, Discover, Citi Dividend, and US Bank Cash+ cards
Chuck Based on my research and JB’s post, the SW priority $75 credit is based on the card member anniversary year, not calendar year. So January 1st doesn’t have any significance for that SW credit. Please delete it from this post based on the same justification for not including the Altitude Reserve Credit. (Maybe it will keep someone else from beating themselves up over “missing” the opportunity.” 😉 )
Right, that’s a mistake. Thanks, deleted now.
Can we still buy SW GC using AMEX PLT airline benefits?
This was working as of a week ago. I did this for both the new gold personal and the Ameriprise platinum.
I got some transactions from 2018 that has not posted yet, will those count for 2019 or 2018 for amex? I am not sure why the aa charge is still pending even after a few days
I think it’s supposed to count towards 2018 even if it hasn’t posted yet.
I’m in the same boat. Did the Saks late last night just before the midnight ET (before 23:00 CT), so, I’m hoping those count, as I did see the charges hit my GooglePay notifications at 22-something CT. Somewhat similar for some triple-dipping on a Biz Plat, and had the Gold charges post, but haven’t gotten any credits yet.
my 12/26 saks purchase triggered $50 credit on 1/1. I’m hoping it counts as my 2018 credit.
I think it will count as 2018. I am quite sure the date you placed the order does not match the date your transaction shows up on your account
I think your SAKS charges will not count as 2018. 🙁
My charge for SAKS on dec 26 was pending for a few days. It showed up on dec 29 with transaction date dec 28. I received SAKS credit on dec 31.
Your case is processed differently from james’ airline credit
The transaction date for online merchants will match the date when merchant ship merchandise and not when they authorize transaction for the first time.
AA process it automatically while issuing gift card(same day as authorization)
Saks is processing the transaction when they ship the item(tipically a few days after authorization)
I think your AA charges will count as 2018.
My charge for AA on dec 27 was pending for a few days. It showed up on dec 29 with transaction date dec 27. I received airline crediy on dec 29
Does my 2nd user on the Amex Platinum also get the $50 Saks credit?
No.
Don’t forget the $325 from the US Bank Altitude Reserve.
That one isn’t based on the calendar year.
Neither is the Chase Sapphire Reserve credit or the Chase Southwest Priority Credit.
Grandfathered CSR has their credit reset on Dec/Jan
The Chase Sapphire Reserve travel credit is based on calendar year for those of us who got the CSR in 2016 or early 2017. For those who joined later, it is by card year.
Let me fix those, thanks
So is Priority Pass renewed today as well for the 10 Visits if you have a card that offers that perk?
William Charles Thoughts?
Not sure sorry
