[Expired] [Targeted] AmEx Offer: Marriott, Spend $300+ & Receive $60 Statement Credit

The Offer

No direct link, targeted offer

  • Get a 1x statement credit by using your enrolled card to spend $300+ on room rate and room charges when you pay for your stay with Marriott hotels by 10/25/2018

The Fine Print

  • Offer valid only at participating Marriott® brands in the U.S and U.S. territories, including: JW Marriott®, Autograph Collection®, Renaissance® Hotels, Marriott Hotels®, Delta Hotels®, Gaylord Hotels®, AC Hotels by Marriott®, Courtyard®, Residence Inn®, SpringHill Suites®, Fairfield Inn by Marriott®, TownePlace Suites® and Moxy® Hotels.
  • Reservations must be made online at Marriott.com, via the Marriott Mobile App or by calling Marriott Worldwide Reservations (888-236-2427).
  • Excludes the following brands: The Ritz-Carlton®, St. Regis®, EDITION®, The Luxury Collection, W® Hotels, Bulgari®, Sheraton®, Marriott Vacation Club®, Le Méridien®, Westin®, Design Hotels™, Tribute Portfolio®, Four Points® by Sheraton, Protea Hotels®, Aloft®, Marriott Executive Apartments®, Element® and Vistana™

Our Verdict

A few things to note:

  • Usually purchasing gift cards at the front desk works to trigger the offer
  • If your stay is after 10/25/2018 you can usually call in and get them to charge you in advance, this usually triggers the offer

Some people are seeing this on the SPG Luxury card as well. If you use the offer on that card then the room rates would be reimbursed under the $300 annual credit as well. So basically spend $300 and get $360 back.

Update: Readers report that the multi-tab trick is working for this Marriott offer. We wrote about this in a separate post as well.

there’s also a Hilton embassy suite offer just added.

Does it have to be one transaction or are multiple ok? I didn’t see it listed in the T&C?

Jace

Multiple transactions worked for the SPG offer, so it should work.

Stefan Krasowski (Rapid Travel Chai)

I had 3 separate stays that added up to $300 and it triggered the $60 when the final stay posted.

Multi-tab is also working for this offer! Showing on my Platinum, PRG, EDC and Blue Delta, but not on my SPG personal.

Good to know

Are you sure? Multi-tab will appear at first to be successful, but when you go back to see where it’s added, it should only be on the first card.

Showing is one thing, adding them and having them all stick is another.

They are indeed all added and sticking.

+1 on adding and sticking

I added to my main SPG & SPGB cards and was then able to add to the AUs on my SPGB.

I had this on 2/3 of cards and multitab shows that it is applied to both cards after a log out/log in. I should have $600 of Marriot spend before then end of October so this should be interesting…

Have the offers in the past explicitly excluded gift card purchases? This one does in the T&C’s.

SG I’m curious how you found that link?

I received a mailed brochure about the new Marriott/SPG program which mentioned it. Here’s a picture: https://imgur.com/a/dbk2EJ4

This would stack nicely with a SPG Lux $300 credit. Guessing offers stay with the personal SPG when upgrading to the Lux according to some comments on reddit.

Yes, got this on my newly opened SPG Luxury card! Have a work trip coming up where I’ll make good use of this.

I’m still arguing w AMEX to credit me for the previous $60 offer w Westin. I booked a stay before the 9/4 date and they’ve given me 3 different reasons as to why it hasn’t posted. If you book a room and pay for the stay I would confirm the details in advance so you have it in writing.

Had it on 2 of our 3 Amex logins: my Amex Ameriprise Plat and my Wife’s SPG Biz.

On 7/7 cards: platinum, bus platinum, everyday preferred, blue, blue business, spg, spg businesss. Multi-tab working.

If I already have a trip booked on a different card, do you think paying for the hotel when I show-up with the amex offer card will work? If GCs work I would think I direct payment does as well, but figured i’d confirm.

Abey

Wow. Added it on SPG luxury, Ty William.
Just have to keep in mind offer expires 10/25 and works only within US territories.
It clearly says excludes gift cards but maybe they wouldn’t know if purchased in hotel.
Also do you get 1,800 points for the $300 reimbursed spend?

I think I recall some credit card recently updating terms to clearly state that you do NOT get points for the reimbursed spend, it might have been for CSR’s travel credit.

Gift card purchase should work, since it’s a purchase at the front desk. Unless they have totally separate POS systems and gift cards are sold via the system that is used to purchase items from say the market or shop. And that might be possible with Marriotts since they are a full-service hotel. I might ask them to make the card amount $300.54 or something so it’s not quite as obvious.

I called the Philadelphia Marriott West and they said they do not sell gift cards, but the Princeton Marriott does. Not sure if properties like Courtyard and Residence Inn sell them, at least it’s an easy quick phone call to find out. Those properties for sure wouldn’t have separate POS systems and are probably less risky.

2/2 for my delta gold and spg. Try to add from website and mobile app in the same time and it works!!!!

try some other Amex offers and it works as well!!!

Genius idea 👍

$450 AF – $360 = $90
$90 for 100K Marriott points is a no brainer.
Still only good for the sign up bonus.
A $450 luxury card with only secondary car rental coverage? Loool.

I have a marriott trip that will total 2 nights for ~$220 total. Anyone know if it’s possible to buy a $100 gift card at the desk and have them add it on to my bill so that the total is over $300?

Abey

You dont necessarily have to add them to your bill, you could just pay right then and there and it will count. The catch though is to find a Marriott hotel that sells gift cars at the front desk or so. I called a few here and there. None so far.
