The Fine Print

Our Verdict

Not a huge deal unfortunately. Staples does let you split pay with at least 5 credit cards, maybe 15 though so if they offer a fee free Visa gift card deal or negative cost deal you could use multiple cards with the offer or use one card with the offer and then another that earns at a high rate on office supply stores. There is also the 10% back at office supply stores for those that have it as well. Staples also sells third party gift cards and this works out to be a 20% discount so could be useful for that as well. Keep in mind this doesn’t work online, unlike the business offer that does.

Also worth keeping in mind the issues with AmEx offers and possible work arounds.

Seems like Staples is offering Teacher Appreciation days. My store was very loose with the teacher registration, but I had a screenshot of my SO’s teacher ID just in case. Never asked for. Cashier casually asked me where I taught, told her about my wife, all good. Tote, couple goodies, entry into a prize of some school supplies, and coupons good for now and later (after 9/8) for $5 off merchandise; I got a 5 pack of black expos for $5, even took off the tax.

If I already have the 10% up to $1000 offer should I use that before I add the $5 offer? I’d hate to lose the first offer by adding the $5 offer.

WC: Thank you for pointing out split payment idea should work on this offer.

If I make it to Staples (not close) for this, I will use Amex Rewards Card and BOA TR.

Does anyone see a gift card exclusion on this one. Often they will say something about not working for gift card purchases, but I don’t see it here.

William Charles I have different DP. Multi-tap may work for co-band credit card.
I added the offer in order on my Delta, Hilton (fee-free) and Hilton Ascend, BCP, everyday. Both of Delta and Hilton (fee-free) keep the offers but the other three lose them.

I assume you know all of this so just to confirm (1) These are all in the same name, address, SSN, (2) the offer in question came out today. Would be even better if this was a DP for Staples $5 on $25 offer. Personally I only saw that on MR cards so not going to qualify for this caveat.

The oddest thing just happened to me. I read all of the comments but decided to test it myself anyway to open all of my Amex cards and try to add the offer one by one in different Incognito browsers.

When I went to http://www.americanexpress.com in the 3rd instance it was already logged into the 2nd Amex card that I had just opened in a different Incognito browser.

I figured this was some kind of fluke so I signed out of the 2nd instance of the 2nd account and logged into my 3rd account using the 3rd Incognito browser. I opened a 4th Incognito browser and it was already logged into my 3rd Amex account.

How can this be possible?

BTW, I tried to login to Autumn Offers afterwards and they Staples offer did not appear there.

One more DP multi tab trick dies. On 5 personal cards but after one added the rest changed to this display

Sorry about that!

Reinforce me to cancel the EVD card which only kept for the AMEX offers.

Did this just happen today? Eugh, was so much easier to always get gift cards at 20% off with those offers. Also got a crapload of credit on Delivery.com at 50% off. Got 20% off my cable bill the last 2 years as well. Hope someone finds a new workaround, going to miss it if not.

Same thing happened to me, I added to 5 cards but it’s only showing on the 1st card I added it to. I guess I’m going to close a bunch of my amex cards.

On the bright side my Amex life is about to get a lot easier to manage…

It does not even let me add to second card despite the offer was showing and opened. As soon as I added it to one of the five personal cards when I went to the 2nd card, under the offer title, I got this message displayed

Sorry about that!

So AMEX fixed the multiple log in and now also fixed the multiple tabs.

The good thing is it makes no sense to even keep some primary accounts.

Same here – multi-tab trick did not work for this offer. Added it to three cards, only shows up now in the first card.
