The Offer

No direct link to offer, sent out via snail mail

  • Citizens Bank is offering a bonus of up to $600. Bonus is broken down as follows:
    • Get a bonus of $300 when you open a new one deposit checking or Platinum checking account and make a direct deposit of $500 or more within 60 days
    • Get an additional $200 when you open a new green savings or platinum savings account with a minimum of $15,000 not currently on deposit with Citizens Bank and maintain that balance for 3 months
    • Get an additional $100 when you do both

The Fine Print

  • All bank account bonuses are treated as income/interest and as such you have to pay taxes on them

Avoiding Fees

Citizens Bank One Deposit Checking Account $9.99 Monthly Fee

The One Deposit checking account comes with a $9.99 monthly fee. Fee is waived by making one deposit each statement period. (According to this comment they really do count any deposit – even a transfer from another Citizens Bank account will trigger this.)

Citizens Bank Platinum Checking Account $25 Monthly Fee

Citizens Bank Platinum Checking: $25 fee is waived with $25,000 in combined deposits

Early Account Termination Fee

As far as we know there is no early account termination fee.

Our Verdict

It’s previously been possible to get a $600 bonus without the savings account. This bonus seems basically identical to the $600 Chase checking & savings bonus. Because this is a targeted bonus we won’t be adding this to our best bank account bonuses.

Is it possible to go from checking account to checking account basically every time a bonus pops up and just change accounts and pay bills with a new different account every few months or so?

Can you sign up for this if you just recently closed an account with Citizen?

Any DP on out of state bonuses?

Wow this is awesome. I doubt I’ll see anything like this as I have churned quite a few Citizens bonuses over the years. Great bank though!

To be fair, those of us with weekly paychecks might not be able to get the old $600 offer, where $500 in a single deposit is much more manageable.

Opened an account two weeks ago using a different promotion, but couldn’t fund it using credit card. There is a note that only debit cards could be used, and the error message said the card isn’t debit.

I have found that in the past you can get a targeted offer from them by filling out half the application and than cancelling halfway through.

I kinda got screwed cause my SSA deposit went over the 60 days. So, no bonus for me. I think it was 62 days.

Got the targeted mailer today. Unlike the expired $600 checking bonus offer (which I was eligible for due to having a bonus-earning checking account closed in the previous 6 months, // sobs), this one doesn’t have any language excluding previous checking account owners. However, it’s weird that the bonus-posting table makes it seem like accounts opened in August will have to keep the 15k through 11/30/2019, which is inconsistent with the plain language meaning of “maintaining that balance for 3 months”.

The exclusive offer code is only for the recipient named on the mailer, and must be signed up using that exact same receiving address.

Called and was (still am) shellshocked to be told by both online and branch that for this offer, the 15k needs to be deposited at the savings account opening (no 10-day grace period, like Chase, for example).

William Charles I believe card funding is dead. I tried to apply for a savings account and it requires debit card only. So sad.

Got another targeted mailer with a unique offer code, but with single DD required increased to 1k, expiring on 11/14/2019
