Avoiding Fees

There are no fees to with this account.

Discover does not have any minimum balance requirement, and you can withdraw all the funds after opening the account and fulfilling the $15,000/$20,000 deposit requirement. You do obviously need to keep the account open until the bonus posts.

Our Verdict

Discover is also offering the same bonus when you apply for the account with them directly. This is not the first time they have offered a bonus on the AAA savings account and people have successfully gotten the bonus from the Discover savings and this AAA discover savings bonus before as well. I don’t think the order matters, but I’d probably do the regular Discover savings account first and then this AAA account.

This is a great deal if you have $15,000/$20,000 as there is no minimum deposit length so you can deposit the $15,000/$20,000 and then immediately withdraw it. In the past the bonus has posted 5-15 days after the deposited has been received. Some people might want to keep funds in the account as they do offer a 1.15% APY, but there are higher interest savings accounts available. We will be adding this to our list of the best saving account bonuses.

I just opened my first Discover Savings with the $200 offer directly with Discover. Should i wait for the other bonus to post before opening this or can i open now with AAA?.

How about a transfer from Discover account to AAA? Does it count as new money in the account?

I was told yesterday on the phone that it does. The rep put me on hold and went to double-check, though. I’ll get it in writing from them very soon through a message, just in case.

So what ended up happening?

MP

I got the confirmation in writing. I probably will have another 20K there before the deadline, though, so getting the bonus based on the money transferred from the existing Discover account may be somewhat of a mute point, but I’m not sure yet.

If you’re asking about the bonus, I haven’t received it yet. Past performance doesn’t guarantee future results…;-) They may have posted it early in the past, but they don’t have to.

Fine print doesn’t say “new money,” which means I can do the regular savings bonus first and then ach to this aaa savings for the bonus right?

Do I need to be a AAA member to open this account?

Victory58
Victory58

I think so, because when I try to apply, it requests a membership ID with Club code

Avi
Avi

I just opened it without the ID and club code.

where we can put promo code for bonus please?

I figure out by myself. It is at the step 3

Did you receive the bonus without entering the AAA info?

I just received my bonus for the Discover $100 offer, so I have 15k lying in that account. If I just transfer the entire amount to the new AAA account, would that work?

Klad
Klad

Should work.. it worked for all who tried when they had 100$ bonus on AAA savings in June this year

Do I have to be a AAA in regards to this promotion or could I just open the account as a non-member?

Avi
Avi

Non member is fine

What I was just told by a specialist was that I can fund the account with the 20 thousand but without an aaa code number I may or may not get the bonus.

Yes that’s what they are supposed to say. But last time the bonus was around, people got it without any AAA membership. So hopefully it will work this time as well.

If, I already did the regular account and now doing the AAA account, should I login using the old regular account or create a brand new account? Will that affect receiving the bonus? Thanks

I had the regular Discover Savings account before but not Discover AAA Savings account. Am I eligible for this bonus?

Klad
Klad

From history, yes you are.. I got bonus on both Regular Savings as well as AAA Savings

Matt
Matt

Thanks Klad.

I opened the account and in the process of transferring $20K. Will update what happens with the bonus.

Any update? Were you successful?

Does it have to be 20k in one shot? Or could it be 5k in and out 4 times

Klad
Klad

20K needs to be there at some time to be eligible for bonus unlike Cap1 where you can do in and out multiple times

Avi
Avi

I remember you need to just hit the 20k mark and then you can go below 20k, right?

Klad
Klad

Yes correct.. just let it post to your account and then you can withdraw it immediately if you have to invest this somewhere else or have higher interest rate accounts.. otherwise 1.15% is fair enough

Ok thank you!

Account was not immediately opened, said I needed to call to “verify info”. Never had a prior AAA DISC. account.

I opened the Discover account using the 150/200 code posted a week ago, and now opened this one. But Discover automatically merged the two into one login.

Otherwise both were approved automatically, and I plan to transfer in the money into the first Discover one this week and wait for bonus to post, then transfer internally to the AAA one from within the Discover account.

Would this work? Is the account being merged automatically into one login a problem?

MP

I hope you post your results. I’d really appreciate it. I don’t think the single login should be a problem, but I’m not so sure about the “new” money for the other account… I find it kind of annoying that Discover Bank and Discover CC use different logins and certainly would prefer not to have another one.

Klad
Klad

No it should be fine.. I have my credit card, checking, savings, AAA savings all under one login.. And I received bonuses on all of them without any problem

Thanks for sharing this, may I ask how long it was between opening your Discover and AAA savings accounts?

Klad
Klad

For me, it was like 1-1.5 years.. but my roomie opened regular and AAA within a gap of couple of days and received bonus on both when it was $100.

Hmm, the first time I saw this post, I was disappointed I opened my Discover savings account recently for the $100 bonus and now it’s higher. Just now I noticed this is different. Not sure if it will be considered “new money,” but it’s worth trying, I guess. I don’t see such an offer on Discover’s own site, though. Since I am AAA member (don’t know if it’ required or not), I might give it a shot. Since I plan to move the money from Discover to Discover, the transfer should be painless, hopefully, because I had a hell of a time with the previous transfer. Discover didn’t say anywhere you can’t move more than 5K at once and I’d scheduled a 15K transfer. It finally made it through, but it was a PITA. Since this offer is valid till October, though, I might just transfer the money from other accounts, so it definitely IS “new” money to Discover. I was going to move it there after I meet the requirements for the Chase bonus anyway.

Thank you, Will.

I called Discover. The rep asked me about the specific code, saying that some are targeted. She told me that the code AAABONUS is fine and I’ll get the bonus not only regardless of having a regular Discover savings account, but a simple transfer from the existing account would be fine. She wasn’t sure about that and went to double-check, so I’ll assume the answer is dependable (I’ve experienced pretty incompetent reps at Discover bank, but this one sounded OK)… Also, there’s plenty of time to move money from other banks, should this end up not working. Even though they say the bonus will be credited by 11/30, Discover apparently tends to post the bonuses quickly, so that’ll become clear soon enough after opening.

Well, this is super wonderful news! Many thanks to Will and the member who found it!!! Should be absolutely easy and painless $200. Heck, even if it doesn’t work at all, no skin off my nose. It’s the same rate anyway. I also read that in the past Discover was paying a tiny bit more interest (.05) on this AAA account than on the regular savings account, but they don’t do it anymore.
