They have a $400 checking and $200 savings with 5k deposit you can open anywhere in the US but be prepared to send in notarized documents of your id and passport if they lock your account

Old National Bank doesn’t allow out of state applications. The “state” field for the address is limited to the eligible states for the bank. The current DP linked for ONB above seems incorrect.

I feel like the most helpful thing would be banks that allow OOS online apps

When it says “does allow” does that mean they allow OOS applicants, whether online or in a branch, or is it only talking about if you apply in a branch?

I successfully opened an Arizona Financial Credit Union account from OOS a week ago.

You have a separate post on “Bank bonuses that are churnable.”

No?

Fifth Third and Huntington will open personal accounts for OOS in branch, I’ve done them both twice and gotten the bonus each time.

Huntington refused to open a business account if the business was not registered in that state.

Wells Fargo: As long as you open the account in a branch, anywhere, you can get the “in branch only” bonuses even if there are no branches in your state.
Can be a good incentive to visit a state with a Wells Fargo branch 🙂

OOS is allowed, but it’s always YMMV with bankers/branches. I had Huntington banker in Chicago refuse to open a personal account, even as a former Chicagoan with strong ties to the area.

Huntington promo terms also only include residents of in-footprint states, but they still pay out OOS residents anyways.

1 So if bank allow OOS at branches, mean they allow OOS online?

2 If bonus stated specific states, and person is not within that states, and if bank allows to open an account, means the person should/would get the bonus?

Associated Bank and Fifth Third are two that I think do not allow OOS online but do allow in branch. So the answer to your first question would be, depends on the bank. Can’t venture a guess on your second question.

Add M&T to the list too.

1. No. They may or may not, but being able to open in branch does not mean you can open OOS online.

Note that with some banks, once your “foot is in the door”, you can apply for future accounts OOS via your login.

2. No. Being able to open does not bypass the terms, so you’re not entitled to the bonus. Some banks may pay out regardless, but it’s not a guarantee and it’s risky.

Note that if the bonus terms don’t list specific state inclusions, and it’s only a system limitation, generally opening in branch sets the branch location as your “footprint”.

Answer to both is “not always, depends on the bank”

There have been banks on this site where they opened the account for OOS but did not give the bonus. If I remember correctly, one example is M&T, which would open the account but then say the bonus was only for some states and not give it to everyone else.

Here are the FIs that I have been approved for from OOS (in ABC order), that I believe are still available from OOS and are not on this list.

Blue Foundry Bank (BFB): I was actually approved in-state but others were approved from OOS.

Delta Community CU

Veridian CU

Here are a few corrections/clarifications to the post.

Arizona Financial: 1 DP of someone being denied from OOS is shown on this page but there are many DPs (including my own) of being approved from OOS. That person was likely denied for their Chex stats rather than for being from OOS.

Langley FCU: Although many people, including myself, were approved from OOS, lately their offers have only been for in-state applicants.

On Tap CU: It should be shown as “On Tap” (with a space) but it is shown as “OnTap” (without a space) on this page.

OnTap told me in March they’re only accepting applicants from in state

Don’t think they are enforcing it if it is in state only. I was approved in mid May

OOS is fine with GoWest Foundation for $5.00.

Did you happen to apply without a referral code back in Mar? The reason I ask is because I remember there being a few DPs a while ago where it seemed like applying with a referral code from OOS made getting approved more likely with On Tap. That was only a theory though and was never proven.
