It was a relatively slow week for credit card news, but thankfully Chuck put together a fantastic year end check list that everybody should go through so no credits are wasted and all applications are optimized. Unfortunately American Express and Uber made an unannounced change to how the Uber credit works on the Platinum, I don’t have an issue with the change but at least let cardholders know so credits aren’t wasted. Discover also released the full 2019 5% categories.
Chase is now offering a bonus to some selected accounts of 100,000 points + $200 on the British Airways card, but it’s hard to get the full points bonus and credit. If you ever upgraded to the Marriott Premier Plus and didn’t get a 50,000 point bonus then ask for a match. Chase will also be rolling out Chase Offers starting on November 11th, 2018. Putting spend on your existing American Express cards might make you eligible for sign up bonuses again.
It was a big week for bank account bonuses, we saw some extended bonuses from Discover & HSBC. TIAA improved the nationwide $150 + $200 bonus they offer by increasing the APY. Chase brought back the popular $200 business savings bonus and a number of good region specific bonuses were added. We also looked at the financial institutions that do and don’t automatically increase savings rates for existing customers.
It was a big week for deals as well. Spotify premium for family customers (new or existing) can get a free Google home mini, Chase Pay is offering a $10 meal credit when you use Chase Pay three times at a restaurant and Amazon is offering a $5 bonus when you send a $50 Amazon gift card via text. BJ’s is also having a big sale on gift cards, including 15% off for Hotels.com. Full list of all our posts from the last week can be viewed below.
