Best Posts Last Week: AmEx Shut Downs, 75k Business Gold Offer & Amazon 20% Off Deals & More

Last week we saw a big wave of American Express shutting down some users accounts. We also saw American Express clawing back some of the Dell credits on a prorated basis due to AmEx offers used. In better news American Express is offering a bonus of 75,000 points on the Business Gold card when using a referral link, 50,000 points is available on the personal card. Citizens Bank is offering 5% cash back through March 31st – in branch only.

There are a number of good nationwide checking bonuses. U.S. Bank is offering a $300 checking bonus, BBVA Compass is offering a $200 checking & $50 bonus, Chase is offering a $2,000 bonus when you upgrade to Chase Private Client. SoFi Invest is offering a $100 bonus when you invest $1,000+. There are also a number of good state specific checking bonuses that can be viewed below.

There is a U.S. Mint deal coming up this Thursday where you can make $113 profit. You can get 20% off when you use a single Membership Rewards points or $15 off $60+ when using a Chase UR point or 20% off when using 1 Discover point and a Citi deal for $15 off when you spend $50+. For anyone concerned about a possible complete shutdown by Amex, might I recommend a points transfer to Virgin Atlantic. Can then book Delta flights using the Virgin miles — a method known to generate solid redemption value. TPG values Virgin miles at 1.5 cents per mile. As an added benefit, Virgin is also a transfer partner of Chase & Citi. Can use the Virgin shopping portal to “refresh” miles to avoid expiration. Better to be safe than sorry when it comes to dealing with Amex these days…
