One of the main limits to signing up for bank account bonuses is the fact that they usually pull your ChexSystems report, this is similar to your credit report that is maintained by Experian/Equifax/TransUnion but tracks deposit accounts instead. Some banks & credit unions won’t allow you to open an account if you have too many new accounts on your Chexsystems report, but not all financial institutions look at your ChexSystems report and these won’t show up. I thought it would be useful to have a dedicated page to this.
The easiest way to find out what financial institutions do/don’t pull your ChexSystems is by requesting a free copy of your report and then comparing that to the accounts you’ve signed up for recently. If you do this, please share your results in the comments.

When we say pull / don’t pull in this post, is it referring to soft or hard pull? Sorry if it’s explained somewhere, but I really didn’t find it. Thank you!
When people talk about Chex pulls, assume they mean “hard pull”. There’s very limited DP’s on soft pulls.

Chex report has two sections – Inquiries Viewed By Others and Inquiries Viewed only by You.
When Banks/CUs look at inquiries, are they looking at both or just the Inquiries Viewed By Others?
Which one is getting hard pull vs soft pull?
Do they see the bank names and information that perform previous inquiries when we apply or just numbers of inquiries?
Just curious what kinda of information and data that being shared and seen by the banks and what they do with that.

FI can only view the “Inquiries Viewed By Others” section of your Chex report. That is the “hard” pull section.
I can’t help you with your other questions.
When Banks/CUs look at inquiries, they are only “looking” at the Inquiries Viewed By Others, which you could compare to a “hard pull”.
Sometimes you may be able to freeze Chex and only get a “soft pull”, Inquiries Viewed Only by You, but usually only if you are an existing customer.
What they “see” depends on their system. I have had bankers in my presence, or over the phone, looking at my list of inquiries, and then ask me questions.
Alternatively, I recently had a bank/credit union send in a screenshot of their system when I disputed a Chex inquiry. That particular system only showed a Chex score, and just my total number of inquiries for three years.
Other banks, they may just see pass/fail, and have no control. A KeyBank banker told me that the system makes the decision and would not be able to open the account.

pelican state did pull chex for me within the past month (chex was not frozen when i applied), but doesn’t appear to be sensitive (i was 5/1, 10/3, lol/everything else at the time)
Interesting. So it is probably best to apply with your Chex frozen.

They did- it was immediate when I submitted my application.
